Music, Moms and the Love They Give

Believe it or not, your mother gave you the foundation to your music tastes, from the radio stations she played on car rides to the music she listened to around the house and the lullabies she sang to you when you were young.

Music will always have a special place in our hearts. When we are at our lowest, it is a crutch to lean on; when we are happiest, it makes us feel even better. It never takes a day off and it never fails to leave an impact. There are few things that have that kind of effect on us, but another example is the unconditional love of a mother.

Like music, a mother’s love is always around and available for whatever we need. She is right there with you through the ups and downs and, like music, your life would look so different without her. And the music industry would look so different without moms, too.

Musicians & Their Mamas

On one of Kanye West’s tours, he dedicated a show in Chicago to his mother who had passed away a few years earlier. In the middle of the show, he explained the impact she had on his life saying to the crowd:

“I wanna dedicate this show to […] Dr. Donda Claire Ann West. I know she up there looking down right now and she helped me get through these past four years.”

Motherhood has always played a beautiful role in music. We’re nostalgic when we hear the songs our mom always played throughout our childhood, and our hearts ache sweetly when we hear our favorite artists sing about their own mothers, like Kanye West did on “Hey Mama”.

We can all relate to Kanye when he sings, “I appreciate what you allowed for me, I just want you to be proud of me.”

Moms In Music

The bond between mother and child is like no other. It’s so strong in fact, that it inevitably influences everything she does, especially her work. Fortune Magazine even lists eight reasons why moms make better CEOs.

For musicians who are also mothers, the same is also true, as their art is emboldened with a whole new perspective on life and love.

Beyonce says it so well in her song “Blue”, written for her daughter Blue Ivy when she sings, “Make it last forever, come on baby won’t you hold onto me, hold on to me.”

A mother’s intuition extends far beyond a spidey sense for her child’s safety — moms have an intrinsic comprehension on life’s real priorities, and that shines through in their work and in their art. In an interview with Garage, Beyonce shared the importance of being a mother:

“Out of everything I’ve accomplished, my proudest moment hands down was when I gave birth to my daughter Blue.”

Songs For Moms

If there’s anything we take for granted in life, it’s our mother’s love. Even if we give thanks for her everyday, until we’re parents ourselves it is impossible to truly appreciate everything she’s done and everything she continues to do.

We wanted to make it easy for people to celebrate their moms through music and to create an original song just for them – even if they’re not Kanye or Beyonce.

At Songfinch, we help you create one-of-a-kind songs to give to your mom as a unique Mother’s Day gift. Tell us your favorite memories, experiences, and stories and we’ll craft a song just for her. Story by you. Song by us. Sincerely, yours.
